Quit looking for a job

Updated: Aug 23, 2023

I’m hoping you had a great Labor Day weekend. I don’t know about you, but yesterday I couldn’t help but think of the millions of Americans who are currently unemployed. My heart breaks for these individuals, but my prayer is not that they will just “find a job.” No, my prayer is much more.

If you think about it, “finding a job” is not the American dream. “Jobs” are boring, monotonous and tedious.

Students don’t go to college to “find a job.” They go because they have a passion to learn about and excel in a particular field.

I believe, as Scripture tells us, that we were all created for a purpose. God did say we would have to work, but He also gave us special gifts and talents. He wouldn’t have given us these to simply let them go to waste. We need to put those gifts and talents to work and ask God to point us toward what He would have us do.

So I ask you, what do you really want to do? I’m not asking you what your degree is in or what your last job was. I’m asking what do you really want to do with your life.

Ask God to reveal to you what you are really passionate about and what he has uniquely gifted you to do and I believe you will discover your purpose.

Remember, you don’t find your destiny. You create your destiny. Therefore, you don’t need to just “find a job.” You need to find a way to act on your passion. But this can’t be done without God’s help.

There are many Scriptures that point to God helping to direct us. Consider:

  • Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this. Psalm 37:4-5

  • Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. Proverbs 16:3

  • Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

  • “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:11-13

If you ask God to direct you, He will.

My prayer is that you will seek Him and that He will open the door for you to do His work in whatever job can help you fulfill your purpose. And, I will be praying for you as God reveals the next great step He has planned for your life!
