It's nothing new

Updated: Feb 15, 2021

“What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” Ecclesiastes 1:9

Considering global events, it is amazing that our world has survived despite the pandemonium and despair that seems ever present in our news. Every time I turn on the television, there seems to be some sort of gloom and doom message being proclaimed. When I compare their message to the Word of God, it comes up short. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Putting aside all the fear mongrels, my God says that this is nothing new. Often, many lurking dangers are based on our own evil choices or the lack of wisdom that we use on a daily basis; however most things like war, disease and despair have been around since the fall of man.

Time after time, throughout history, there has always been some sort of threat. Diseases or problems, that have the potential to wipe out nations, are nothing new. The world has overcame Cholera epidemics, Tuberculosis, Malaria, Dysentery and Pneumonia (too mention a few) that were all once a serious threat, just like Anthrax and Ebola have been recently. These things are nothing new to God. And the threat might have a different name, but it is no different than any of the other threats that have made their self notorious in our world over the years. Every single one of the previous diseases were once a huge scare in that day and time, as Ebola might be to some today. War, famine, drought, disease and sin is nothing new to God. Don’t panic…he has everything under control. Just as He had everything under control throughout history and all the many devastations that has happened, He has this too! Draw close to Him and let fear go!

Here is a prayer from Psalm 17: 6-9 (or you can pray the whole prayer over you): “I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God; Incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech. Show Your marvelous loving-kindness by Your right hand, O You who save those who trust in You from those who rise up against them. Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings, from the wicked who oppress me, from my deadly enemies who surround me.”
